International medical personnel remind residents in the disaster areas to guard against tetanus
Xinhuanet Jakarta January 15 (Reporter Wu Qiang Yu Qianliang) International medical rescue organization "MSF" on the 15th reminded residents of the Aceh disaster area in Indonesia to guard against tetanus when cleaning up the ruins.
At present, the Aceh disaster area is hot and rainy, and there are still many rotting corpses buried in the ruins. When people look for useful items in the ruins of the destroyed houses, they are easily infected by tetanus. "MSF" officials said the organization had found 67 cases of tetanus in Banda Aceh, and it is estimated that the number of people infected with tetanus will increase significantly in the next few days. These officials warned that even with immediate treatment, the mortality rate of people infected with tetanus is still more than 25%.
International medical aid workers have begun distributing gloves and high boots to residents of Banda Aceh who are involved in cleaning up the ruins. Some volunteers also drove the tweeters on the streets to promote the danger of tetanus.
According to local media reports, relevant UN agencies have organized about 3,000 victims to participate in the cleanup of ruins in Banda Aceh, paying their living expenses every day. Prior to this, the Indonesian army had been using bulldozers to systematically clean up the ruins. (Finish)
