Today, the Central Political Bureau held its 31st collective study session, focusing on making good use of red resources and continuing the red bloodline. This collective study is an important arrangement led by the Central Political Bureau to carry out party history learning and education.
Just now, we visited the Peking University Red Building and Chairman Mao's Former Residence in Fengze Garden. Both places hold symbolic significance in the history of the Party. The Peking University Red Building is closely related to the founding of the Party; Peking University was the center of the New Culture Movement and the origin of the May Fourth Movement, the earliest place to spread Marxist thought in China, and a historical witness to our Party's early revolutionary activities in Beijing, holding an important position in the Party's founding process. Chairman Mao's Former Residence in Fengze Garden is closely related to the establishment of the new China. Starting from September 21, 1949, Chairman Mao worked and lived here for 17 years, planning a series of major policies for the founding and construction of new China. The history of these two places vividly explains how the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China came to be, providing us with a vivid and lively lesson in Party history.
Red is the brightest base color of the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China. Across our country's vast land of more than 9.6 million square kilometers, red resources are scattered everywhere. In the great century-long struggle led by our Party to unite and lead the Chinese people, the red bloodline has been passed down from generation to generation. Every historical event, every revolutionary hero, every revolutionary spirit, and every revolutionary relic represents the glorious journey our Party has taken and the major achievements it has made, showcasing our Party's dreams and pursuits, feelings and responsibilities, sacrifices and dedication, all converging into our Party's red bloodline. The red bloodline is a concentrated embodiment of the political character of the Communist Party of China and the spiritual source of strength for the Chinese Communists in the new era.
After the 18th National Congress of the Party, the Standing Committee members of the Central Political Bureau visited the "Road to Revival" exhibition together, reviewing the arduous journey of the Chinese nation’s exploration since modern times. I emphasized the unshirkable historical mission of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the Chinese Dream. After the 19th National Congress, the Standing Committee members of the Central Political Bureau jointly paid respects at the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai and the Red Boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, declaring to the whole Party and nation the firm determination to continue the red bloodline and walk well the Long March of the new era. Since the 18th National Congress, whenever I have inspected local areas, I have visited revolutionary sacred sites, red relics, and revolutionary historical memorial places of great historical significance to our Party, covering most of the main ones. From the site of the Party’s First National Congress to various important revolutionary bases, from the memorial sites of the land revolution, the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the Liberation War to important memorial places of the socialist revolution, construction, and reform and opening up, every visit is a chance to relive those glorious years, review the Party’s difficult journey, and experience a spiritual shock and baptism. Each time, I go with reverence and return with many insights. At the celebration of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, I emphasized: "No matter how far we go forward, we must never forget the road we have traveled; no matter how brilliant the future, we must never forget the past and why we set out."
Looking back at the past journey and gazing forward to the road ahead, we must always continue the red bloodline, using the Party’s struggle history and great achievements to inspire fighting spirit and guide direction, using the Party’s glorious traditions and fine conduct to strengthen faith and gather strength, using the Party’s historical experience and practice to enlighten wisdom and temper character, carrying forward the past and opening up the future, forging ahead.
Currently, the whole Party is grandly celebrating the centenary of the Party’s founding and deeply carrying out Party history learning and education. Party organizations at all levels should make full use of red resources to educate and guide the broad masses of Party members and cadres to continue the red bloodline, achieving learning history to understand principles, increase confidence, honor virtue, and put learning into practice. The key is to grasp the following points.
First, educate and guide the whole Party to always adhere to scientific theoretical guidance. The Peking University Red Building we just visited left behind the deeds of Party founders like Li Dazhao and Chen Duxiu spreading Marxism. The widespread dissemination of Marxism in China gave birth to the Communist Party of China. Marxism provided our Party with a scientific worldview and methodology, a powerful ideological weapon to understand and transform the world. Comrade Mao Zedong said: "Our theoretical foundation for daring to think, speak, act, and take responsibility is Marxism-Leninism." It is precisely because of Marxism’s guidance that our Party can be clear-eyed and determined, not waver in critical choices, not shrink back in difficulties, not be discouraged in crises, and march confidently toward victory.
Our Party’s history is a history of advancing the sinicization of Marxism, continuously enriching and developing Marxism, and also a history of applying Marxist theory to understand and transform China. Over the past century, our Party has adhered to combining the basic principles of Marxism with China’s concrete realities, creating Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, forming the important thought of the "Three Represents," the Scientific Outlook on Development, and establishing the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, guiding the Party and people’s cause to continuously open up new prospects. Why can the Communist Party of China succeed, and why is socialism with Chinese characteristics good? Fundamentally, it is because Marxism works. We must feel the power of truth from the Party’s century-long struggle, continuously deepen our understanding of the laws of Communist Party governance, socialist construction, and human social development, and illuminate our path forward with the truth of Marxism.
Second, educate and guide the whole Party to always uphold ideals and beliefs. I have often quoted "Revolutionary ideals are higher than the sky" to illustrate the importance of ideals and beliefs. Our Party is named the "Communist Party" because it affirms the lofty ideal of communism. Looking back at the Party’s century-long history, countless Communists sacrificed their lives for ideals and beliefs. Li Dazhao, facing the executioner’s noose, made the firm vow that "Communism will inevitably achieve glorious victory in China." Facing the enemy’s butcher knife, Xia Minghan wrote the heroic poem: "Beheading does not matter, as long as the doctrine is true. Kill Xia Minghan, there will be successors." Facing nine enemy attempts to persuade him to surrender within six days, Qu Qiubai resolutely replied: "People love their history more fiercely than birds love their wings; please do not tear apart my history." Comrade Deng Xiaoping said: "In our most difficult times, the ideal of communism was our spiritual pillar; so many people sacrificed to realize this ideal."
Today, we have long been far from the dangers of war and have lived in peace for a long time, making us most prone to the "soft bone disease" of lacking ideals and beliefs. Communism is our Party’s lofty ideal. To realize this lofty ideal, we must firmly uphold the belief in socialism with Chinese characteristics. All Party comrades must strengthen the "Four Consciousnesses," firm the "Four Confidences," and on the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country, overcome difficulties and forge ahead, continuously winning new victories for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
Third, educate and guide the whole Party to always uphold the original aspiration and mission. Remembering and practicing the original aspiration and mission of seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation is a red thread running through our Party’s century-long struggle. Our Party was able to grow strong from such a weak beginning and repeatedly rise from the ashes amid countless hardships because it always remembered its original aspiration and mission, faithfully practiced the fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly, thereby winning the heartfelt support and backing of the people. The people are the root of our Party’s life, the foundation of its governance, and the source of its strength.
I repeatedly emphasize that the country is the people, and the people are the country. To seize and defend the country is to win the hearts of the people. This is a warning to all party comrades: for a party that has governed for a long time like ours, there is no greater danger than forgetting the original mission and becoming detached from the masses. As long as we always share life and death with the people and share weal and woe, the people will resolutely follow the party, and the party will prosper forever. All party comrades must continuously understand the original mission from the party's century-long struggle, implement the people-centered development philosophy well, and unswervingly strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Fourth, educate and guide the entire party to always uphold the glorious revolutionary tradition. The party's century-long struggle shows that only a party with a great spirit can lead the people to win great struggles and create great undertakings. Generation after generation of Chinese Communists have faced difficulties and risks head-on, fought tenaciously and persevered, demonstrating a great historical initiative spirit, building the spiritual lineage of Chinese Communists, and forming the party's glorious tradition. The party's great spirit and glorious tradition are our precious spiritual wealth and a powerful spiritual driving force that inspires us to forge ahead courageously. Li Dazhao once said: "The road of history is not always smooth; sometimes it reaches difficult and dangerous realms, which can only be overcome with a strong spirit."
Today, China is at a critical period for achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. National strength and national rejuvenation require the accumulation of material civilization and, more importantly, the sublimation of spiritual civilization. The road ahead will not be smooth; we will inevitably face various major challenges, risks, resistances, and contradictions. We must never lose the revolutionary and fighting spirit, never lose the tradition of humility, prudence, avoiding arrogance and rashness, hard work, and thrift, and never lose the courage to face strong enemies, risks, to fight, and to win. All party comrades must nourish and inspire themselves with the great spirit formed in the party's century-long struggle and carry out the party and country's work with a high-spirited state.
Fifth, educate and guide the entire party to always uphold the advancement of self-revolution. The party's century-long struggle shows that a great Marxist party is not born but forged through long-term social practice and tempered through continuous self-revolution. The greatness of our party lies not in never making mistakes but in never hiding or avoiding problems, daring to face issues directly, and courageously carrying out self-revolution. Despite a century of vicissitudes, our party remains vigorous and youthful, and its secret lies in its strong ability for self-purification, self-improvement, self-renewal, and self-enhancement. Practice has proven that as long as we always uphold the truth and correct mistakes, our party can maintain its advanced nature and purity forever and remain invincible.
Our party has been in power for more than 70 years and will continue to govern for a long time. The spirit of self-revolution is a strong support for the party's governing capacity and must never be lost. Since the 18th National Congress, we have carried out the great self-revolution of comprehensively and strictly governing the party with firm determination and strong will, achieving remarkable results. At the same time, we must fully recognize that factors affecting the party's advancement and weakening its purity still exist. The party faces long-term and complex tests in governance, reform and opening up, the market economy, and the external environment. The dangers of spiritual slackness, insufficient capability, detachment from the masses, and negative corruption are sharp and severe. All party comrades must enhance their sense of crisis and persistently push forward comprehensive and strict party governance. All party comrades must be strict with themselves, continuously improve political judgment, political comprehension, and political execution, courageously face their own problems, promptly correct ideological and behavioral deviations, prevent degeneration and mutation, always be qualified communists, and make due efforts to build the party stronger and more powerful.
Comrades! Red resources are witnesses to our party's arduous and glorious struggle history and are the most precious spiritual wealth. We must protect, manage, and utilize them with care, emotion, and effort. First, strengthen scientific protection. Red resources are irreplaceable and non-renewable precious resources, and protection is the primary task. We must conduct special investigations of red resources with a responsible attitude toward history and the people, strengthen the protection of red sites and revolutionary relics, and coordinate rescue protection and preventive protection, intrinsic protection and surrounding protection, single-point protection and cluster protection. Second, carry out systematic research. Coordinate research forces, strengthen research planning, actively carry out the rescue, collection, and research of revolutionary historical materials, strengthen revolutionary history research, deeply explore the ideological connotations behind red resources, accurately grasp the main themes, main lines, and mainstream essence of the party's historical development, and resolutely oppose and resist historical nihilism. Third, create high-quality exhibitions. Adhere to the unity of political, ideological, and artistic qualities, maintain proper guidance, focus on themes, speak with historical facts, strive to create high-quality exhibitions, enhance expressiveness, communication, and influence, and vividly spread red culture. Fourth, strengthen educational functions. Around major events and key nodes in the revolutionary, construction, and reform periods, identify a batch of important landmark sites, tell the party's story, the revolution's story, and the heroes' story, highlight the characteristics of the times, and make them great schools for educating, inspiring, and shaping people. Design educational activities suitable for young people's cognitive characteristics, build distinctive bases for revolutionary tradition education, patriotism education, and youth ideological and moral education, guiding them to establish red ideals in their hearts from an early age.
Comrades! Chairman Mao said at the preparatory meeting of the party's Seventh Congress: "There is a saying in our Chinese 'Zhuangzi': 'Its beginning is simple, but its completion must be great.' We have not yet 'completed' it, but it is already very great." Today, our party is even greater, the party's ranks are larger, the party's cause is greater, our responsibilities are greater, and the people's demands on the party are greater, higher, and stricter. We must continue the red bloodline, protect and build the red country established by the revolutionary martyrs' blood and sacrifice, and strive to create new achievements worthy of the revolutionary predecessors' expectations, history, and the people.
